Republic, Missouri is a small city located in the southwestern part of the state. The history of Republic dates back to the early 1800s when it was first settled by European-American pioneers. In 1833, a man named James Hubble founded the town and named it “Hubble’s Creek.” The name changed to Republic in 1858, after the city became incorporated.
During the American Civil War, Republic was a strategic location for both Union and Confederate forces. The town’s proximity to Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield made it an important site during the war. In fact, some of the most significant battles of the war were fought in or near Republic. Today, visitors can still see remnants of this history at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield.
Over time, Republic grew into a thriving community with a strong agricultural industry. Farmers in the area raised crops like wheat and oats, as well as livestock such as cattle and hogs. In addition to farming, Republic also had several businesses that contributed to its economy including a flour mill, sawmill, and blacksmith shop. As transportation improved in the late 19th century with railroads and highways connecting Republic to other parts of Missouri and beyond, its economy continued to grow and diversify.
Today, Republic is a vibrant community of around 16,000 people. Its rich history can still be seen in the many historic buildings and landmarks scattered throughout the city. The Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, offering a glimpse into the area’s past.

The Republic School District, located in southwest Missouri, prides itself on providing an excellent academic environment for its 5024 students each day. The district has a history of student performance that is in the upper echelon of public schools across Missouri, with a recent “grade” of 100% on the Annual Performance Report (APR) assigned by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
